I prefer Braveheart of Gibson's historical gore-fests, but the costumes are good enough, and Jason Isaac's performance as the sadistic British officer is scenery-chewing in the best sense.

I've never seen this film version, but I've seen the musical on stage and it is a witty and romantic (though less than strictly accurate) account of the writing of the Declaration of Indepedence. Lots of fun.

I kind of expected this movie to be terrible, but ended up enjoying it quite a bit. Great art it's not, but it's light and entertaining and great when you're in the mood for some fluff.
